Today, our South Stokes JROTC cadets supported the Veterans Bridge Home event at the Richard Childress Racing facility in Welcome, N.C. Over 800 veterans were recognized today and were able to break bread with fellow veterans. Our cadets had the privilege and honor to meet Colonel Walter “Joe” Marm, USA (Ret.) Vietnam Veteran, Recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, and Colonel Norman A. McDaniel, USAF (Ret.) Vietnam Veteran and prisoner of War (for 7 years). What a day to have a chance to represent Stokes County at this event. We are super proud of our Cadets and their contributions.

Today, the JROTC Cadets, along with VFW post 11173, participated in a memorial site cleanup near Hwy-8 in Walnut Cove. Remembering our fallen, and recognizing the importance of honoring those who came before is an important aspect of the JROTC program. Our Cadets also received a quick history lesson from Mr. David Coffill.
